PatterN RecognitioN

PatterN RecognitioN examines the role of pattern as an energised and expansive language within contemporary Australasian object making with a particular exploration of the interrelationship of pattern and form.

The work consciously investigates strategies of making that are articulated through pattern as surface transformation, and pattern as form itself.

The selected artists have drawn upon both natural and cultural patterns in their work, embracing a diversity of artforms from textiles and glass to ceramics, jewellery, lighting and installation work. The work is thoughtful, unexpected, captivating and compelling.

PatterN RecognitioN shows the work of nine artists who have been selected across five states and New Zealand and includes both emerging and established artists.

This exhibition is presented collaboratively by Artisan and Object: Australian Centre for Craft and Design and is supported by Object's National Exhibitions Strategy, a program funded by the Australia Council. The exhibition is supported by Visions of Australia, an Australian Government Program supporting touring exhibitions by providing funding assistance for the development and touring of cultural material across Australia.
