Careers in Museums and Galleries Networking Event 2012

M&GSQ presented a free Careers Networking Session followed by informal networking over refreshments. The afternoon was broken up into sections:

Part A: How to get there - presentations by postgraduate study providers. Speakers included:

  • Dr Graeme Were, Convenor, UQ Museum Studies Program
  • Camille Serisier, Curatorial and Collections Officer, Griffith Artworks, Griffith University - Griffith Artworks Short Internship Program and Report on Smithsonian Short Term Visiting Scholar experience

Part B: Personal pathways - case studies from individuals in the sector. Speakers included:

  • Kath Kerswell, Collection Coordinator, UQ Art Museum
  • Dr Diana Young, Museum Director / Senior Lecturer, UQ Anthropology Museum
  • Joan Kelly, Network Coordinator - Museums, Moreton Bay Regional Council

Part C: Once you've arrived - mentorships and internships. Speakers included:

  • Smithsonian Fellowships - Jenny Riches, Principal Project Officer, Department of Science, IT, Innovation and the Arts
  • Smithsonian Fellow - Mellina Mallos, Program Officer, Education and Curriculum Programs, QAG|GOMA
  • Churchill Fellowships - Matthew Shepherd, President, Churchill Fellowship Association of Queensland
  • Churchill Fellow - David Elliott, Executive Chairman, Australian Age of Dinosaurs
  • M&GSQ Fellowship & Mentorship Program 2011-2012 - Debra Beattie, General Manager, M&GSQ
