M&G QLD grew out of a long and successful partnership between Company Member organisations, Public Galleries Queensland (formerly Regional Galleries Association of Queensland Inc.) and Museums Galleries Australia Inc. (Queensland).
Museums Galleries Australia Queensland (MGAQ)
Established in 1993, Museums Galleries Australia is an advocate for museums and galleries, their collections and the people who work in them. The association is a national membership body working through a network of state and territory branches, Special Interest Groups (SIGs), the national office and an elected Council.
The Queensland branch of MGA operates under Museums Galleries Australia state by-laws and has an elected Executive Committee that represents diverse sectors of the industry in Queensland. MGAQ annually appoints two members of this Committee to the Board of Museums & Galleries Queensland.
Public Galleries Queensland (PGQ)
Public Galleries Queensland (PGQ) changed to its new trading name in 2017. It was formerly Regional Galleries Association of Queensland.
The Regional Galleries Association of Queensland was developed by the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) as a professional advisory and advocacy body to support and service the needs of the state’s regional and public gallery network. The RGAQ was supported by the LGAQ from 1986-1996.
PGQ operates under Queensland legislation and has an elected Management Committee that represents regional and public galleries in Queensland. PGQ annually appoints two members of this Committee to the Board of Museums & Galleries Queensland.
