M&G QLD presented a free workshop focusing on recruiting and working with volunteers in museums and galleries. 

This workshop introduced some of the principals and practices of effective volunteer management including:

• Recruiting new volunteers  
• Understanding and working with new patterns of community participation and what motivates volunteers 
• Developing your volunteer program and your volunteers 
• Recognising and valuing your volunteers 

The workshop was facilitated by Mark Creyton, Director of Education, Research and Policy, Volunteering Qld and co-author Willing and Able: Recruiting, Managing and Retaining Volunteers in Museums and Galleries.


About Mark Creyton

Mark Creyton
Director of Education, Research and Policy, Volunteering Queensland

Mark has over twenty years’ experience as an educator, manager and consultant working within the non-profit and government sectors. A core focus of his work has been the development of volunteer program education with an emphasis on new models of volunteering and making an impact. He has a passion and commitment to creating and sustaining volunteer programs, which genuinely engage professionals in projects of impact, working in a collaborative and team based model.   

He has also developed new models of student engagement and worked with many universities in program development and consultancy in community partner development. In 2013 he was awarded a QUT Vice Chancellor’s award for excellence in this work. In 2013 he developed the inaugural National Student Volunteer Week program now in its third year engaging more than 70% of universities across Australia in this initiative.

Furthermore, Mark has worked for Community Aid Abroad and Amnesty International. He has a B.Ed. (Adult and Workplace; first class honours) and a Graduate Certificate in Education (Leadership and Management).
