Full day workshop with Josh Tarrant, Museum Development Officer for South East Queensland, Queensland Museum Network.

The session provideed an overview of collection management principles and provided an opportunity to explore both the theory and practice of core collection management functions, including:

•    The role of collections in contemporary museum practice
•    Collection policy and acquisition
•    Sustainable collecting
•    Cataloguing
•    Loans (inward & outward)
•    Deaccessioning

The day provided an opportunity to not only learn about fundamental concepts of collection management, but to share experiences and lively discussion about potential solutions or improvements to your own practice. Participants became familiar with the fundamentals of collection management, the rationale behind it, and the risks if not carried out adequately.


About Josh Tarrant

Josh is the Museum Development Officer for South East Queensland, Queensland Museum Network. He has worked in or with a diverse range of community, local government and state museums over the past 20 years on a number of collection management, curatorial and public program projects.
