More information about Mount Morgan Historical Museum

The Museum building itself is part of the display, being built in 1895 as a department store and has had many uses since. It was donated by Mount Morgan Gold Mine Ltd to the town to be used as a museum in the 1970’s.

The displays are varied; from the award-winning Indigenous display, through the mine syndicate formed to open the mine and models of the mine workings, to the town with maps and local government information.

The fascination continues with the Museum’s fine collection of horse-drawn buggies and wagons, along with the first motor hearse in Mount Morgan (a 1921 Buick) and a 1942 international fire engine.

The Museum also has researchers available for family history searches and has cemetery records, mine records, and town records which go back to the beginning of Mount Morgan.
