Digitisation & Access Workshop

M&G QLD is running a free Digitisation & Access workshop in August and September 2023 in the following local government areas: Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Southern Downs.

About the event

Presenter: Josh Tarrant, Senior Museum Development Officer – South East Queensland Region

This workshop will provide a comprehensive understanding of Collection Digitisation, with innovative examples and case studies on digitisation as a means for access and interpretation. It will cover topics such as:

  • What is digitisation and why digitise?
  • Planning and principles of digitisation;
  • Copyright considerations; 
  • Capture standards/specifications; 
  • Practical digitisation;
  • Hardware & software options;
  • File management and data integrity.

About the Presenter

Josh Tarrant is part of the Queensland Museum Network’s Museum Development Officer (MDO) Program and based in Ipswich, Queensland.

Josh assists community-focused organisations with the management and interpretation of their museums and collections.

Josh has worked in a range of regional and metropolitan museums throughout Australia. He uses his curatorial and collection management experience to help groups to engage communities and unlock the potential of their collections. His approach is outcome oriented and is responsive to the unique environments and dynamics of the groups he works with.

This is the fifth workshop in M&G QLD’s Museum and Gallery Recovery and Preparedness Workshop Series being delivered throughout 2023 in the Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Southern Downs local government regions. Aimed at staff and volunteers from public museums, galleries and their communities, the Series includes six workshops covering Mental Health & Wellbeing, Collection Management, Digitisation & Access, Disaster Preparedness, Contemporary Collecting, and Volunteer Program Revitalising.
