More information about the Townsville Heritage Centre…

Situated in the heart of the Townsville region, where the sea meets the tropics and outback, the Townsville Heritage Centre is a stunning venue that blends natural beauty with a rich historical legacy. Surrounded by an area known for its Indigenous heritage, breathtaking islands, and coral reefs, the Centre is home to well-preserved architecture that reflects the region’s storied past. Among its most notable features is the historic ‘Currajong,’ a timber villa built in 1888. This elegant, single-storey house boasts spacious rooms that open onto wide, ornate verandahs via French doors. Originally constructed for Alfred MacKenzie, a prominent bank manager, ‘Currajong’ later served as an RAAF Hospital during wartime, deepening its historical importance and charm.
