GN Olsson Mastercraftsmen located in Queensland’s South East, established in 1983 are renown, accredited antique restorers and conservators. Custom displays, reproductions of antiques and missing parts of antiques may also be commissioned. Gary is also a leather artisan. Australiana is a personal interest.
Most clients are private, however, commissions and associations include museums and galleries such as Qld Conservatorium of Music (Antique Pianos), Ipswich Museum (Original Queensland Museum Display Furniture), Landsborough Museum (Nicklin Desk), Caboolture Museum (Boardroom Suite), Petrie Museum (Consultant, Traditional Crafts Exhibit) as well as numerous live displays of horse drawn steam and vintage machinery for many historical villages and the RNA, Brisbane, and private museum open days. Also 3 tiers of government and church projects.
Projects
2022
Eumundi Museum – Carved missing sections of wreath and carved a new rising sun. Retention of the original hand painted flags. Clean and rework the original finish throughout. Replacement of missing moulding. Removal of unsightly coarse fixings and did traditional style hidden fixings of this large and heavy honour board. Correct the fitting of the doors, servicing of the lock.
2021
Ipswich Museum – Old Display ex Qld Museum. Replacement of broken and missing panes with antique glass. Locksmithing. Rejointing, Reworking original polish and then waxing.
2020
Queensland Steam and Vintage Machinery Society Inc – Old Petrie Town. Restoration of antique fund raiser and affixing a custom plaque
2019
Queensland Steam and Vintage Machinery Society Inc – Old Petrie Town. Reproduction doors and louvred vents for the Tractor Shed new but made traditionally and finished in a manner to appear old.
2018
Our Lady of Victories Church, Bowen Hills – Memorial Honour Roll cleaned, with original gilt names conserved and improved integrity of the timber and metal stand.
